Senior Guide
Eb fell in love with the Grand Canyon on a Rim to Rim hike in August 1971. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Resource Management from SUNY, Syracuse, New York in 1975, Eb moved to Flagstaff, Arizona and fought forest fires in nearly every western state as well as performing timber inventories in Arizona and New Mexico with the Forest Service. Living in Flagstaff, Arizona from 1976-1986, he had become obsessed. Eb was quick to explore and feel at home in the inner canyon spending much of each winter below the rim.
Moving to Tucson, he became a teacher in 1988. Eb left teaching in 1995 to found Sky Island Treks, and pursue full time Professional Wilderness Guiding. He revels in sharing the canyon with travelers of every sort from seniors to families to 7 Summit climbers. From the Bright Angel Trail to the Summit of Cheops Pyramid, Eb is truly at home in the Grand Canyon.
Eb has spent over 1300 days in the inner canyon on overnight treks and day hikes. He has trekked extensively in the Sierra Nevada, Cascades, Rocky and Appalachian Mountains as well as most of the obscure Arizona sky island and basin ranges. Eb has also trekked in the Pirin and Rila Mountains of Bulgaria. When not trekking the canyon he enjoys alpine summits including a climb of Aconcagua in 2001 with climbing partner Matt Nelson, a Discovery Treks colleague.

Professional Wilderness Guide
Born in New York, Sheldon grew up in the Detroit area. After completing college at the University of Michigan where he earned Bachelors Degrees in Psychology and in Education. Sheldon went on to get his Masters Degree in Counseling and moved West to Flagstaff, Arizona. His professional experiences are quite varied, working as a university administrator, human resources manager, counselor for at-risk youth and as a health club manager and nationally certified personal trainer.
His first backpacking trip started him off on the right foot, taking Sheldon to what he calls "the most beautiful place on earth," Havasupai. Whitewater rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon sealed Sheldon's fate as a "wilderness junkie." Since then, Sheldon has worked as a river-rafting guide on the Colorado, San Juan, Salmon and Verde Rivers. He has also led hikes in the Grand Canyon on numerous trails from both the North and South rims as well as up from the river.
A Nationally Certified I-EMT and CPR Instructor Trainer, safety is priority one on Sheldon's hikes... with "having the time of our lives" a close second requirement. Although he is eternally awe-struck by the magnificence of the great outdoors, it is meeting new people and helping to enhance their wilderness experience that motivates Sheldon to guide trips (in addition to this giving him a captive audience to listen to his seemingly endless repertoire of bad jokes.)
When not out backpacking, Sheldon resides in Sedona, Arizona where he works at a large, upscale resort as the Human Resources Manager and volunteers his expertise with the Sedona Fire District's Emergency Medical Services.
